Arctic15 2026: two days in the startup crowd

Arctic15 is Helsinki’s deal-making conference — smaller than Slush, but everyone actually talks to each other. I went with a notebook and left with a cramped hand. The ten takeaways that survived the tidy-up:

1. The hallway track beats the stage. The best conversations happened in the coffee line.
2. Every founder pitch is a story problem. The good ones state the problem in one sentence.
3. “AI-powered” has stopped meaning anything; the interesting companies talked about distribution instead.
4. Investors here ask about unit economics before vision — very Finnish, very refreshing.
5. Student tickets are absurdly good value. Go.

What I’d do differently

Book meetings before the event, not during. The matchmaking app fills up by day one, and the people you most want to meet are the ones whose calendars close first.

Also: comfortable shoes. Two days of concrete floors is a lesson you only need once.
